Tonight's homework is to complete the Lesson 5 Sprint. Many students had time to finish it in class. :)

Tonight students should complete Lesson 4 Homework. This works on expanded form, standard form and word form. We reviewed today that expanded form is a way to say the value of each digit in a number. Standard form is "the ushe" as my students say (aka the usual) way to write numbers. Word form is all words - like how we write when we write checks. Students will be assessed on lesson 4 tomorrow.
I've added a link to my website where you'll find Duane Habecker's youtube channel. This is a great way to reinforce topics learned in class. Tonight students are to complete Lesson 3 Sprint. They should also work on Lesson 3 homework if that wasn't completed in class.
Today we reviewed Lesson 2 but still may have some homework left to do on it. Tonight's homework is to finish Lesson 2 Homework. If students did not finish their problem set from Lesson 2 for whatever reason, they should go back to that tonight for extra practice.
The following youtube channel is a great resource to reteach the lesson of the day. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4AhmN1xMpag Tonight's homework is Problem Set for Lesson 2. Students should complete as much as this as possible within twenty minutes of 100% effort work time. If students become stuck on certain problems and have tried to draw the units out, they can write questions to ask in class tomorrow.
Students are responsible for completing Lesson 1 Homework tonight.
Today's class reviewed the expectations of class - turn and talk, math notebooks, technology, group rotations, etc.
Tonight's homework is to complete the Lesson 1 Problem Set. Students had time to work together and with me on this assignment. Together we reviewed how to read directions underlining the verb to make sure we understand all that we are being asked to do. Feel free to write comments or email me if you or your child has any questions or concerns. Math has transformed from memorizing and surface level understanding to a deeper, more rigorous understanding of how the math works. This transformation guides our instruction - today we teach math following the Common Core State Standards. This allows our students to manipulate math so they can apply it in most any situation instead of being boxed into memorized formulas. If we come together to support one another, we can help make this transition an easier one for students.
Math is scheduled from 9:40am-11:00am Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. We will have it from 9:50-11:05 on Wednesdays. We will use the Eureka curriculum again which has several support website for it. Students in my math class will take notes daily on the lesson to use to assist them during the Problem Set and Homework time. During class, students will rotate from whole class teaching to small groups in which they will rotate to three different groups each day for 15-20 minutes each. |
