Due to the Winter Concert tonight at 5:30, guided reading groups were cancelled to give students ample time to write their body paragraphs. Most students finished their body paragraphs and conclusion by the end of class but if it's not completed, it needs to be before class tomorrow. Tomorrow we will revise and edit before turning it in for a grade for second semester. We will also have our spelling test tomorrow.

Even though we didn't have an ELA class today due to the dress rehearsal, students are still responsible to be ready for tomorrow's ELA class. Tomorrow, students will need to have their RACE plan for the PARCC writing complete, their ELA expert animal graphic organizer complete as well as their introduction paragraph complete. Tomorrow is nearly the last day for AR tests so they should also be ready to take an AR test.
Tonight's homework is to complete the front page of the graphic organizer handed out today in class. This page requires students to use their completed research journal so if it is not already complete, it needs to be before starting the graphic organizer.
Tonight's homework is to complete the Research Note-Catcher up to the sketching page. Students will be using their Animal Defenses Animal Behaviors book primarily.
Even though we are going on our field trip tomorrow at 9:00am, we will still meet for a short period to take our spelling test and begin some writing work. Tonight's homework is to complete the following depending on which animal they were reassigned to today in class:
Springbok: 6, 8 and 9 from the Expert Group Animal Research Journal. Mimic Octopus: 6, 9, 10 and 12 from the Expert Group Animal Research Journal Also they should complete the Word Study Spelling Page if it wasn't completed in class. Tonight's homework is the same as last night's. Students completed their i-Ready test today. We will begin our second half of our unit tomorrow which begins our writing pieces about our animals. Students need to have all of their research journal complete before class tomorrow.
A new list of spelling words went home today in the Thursday folder and it's also uploaded on Spelling City under "Week 2". Students should practice these tonight. They will get their new packet tomorrow. Tonight's homework is to make sure the research journal is caught up. Students should have pages 1-11 filled out as well as two sketches and at least 4-6 vocabulary words. We will take our i-Ready test tomorrow so please rest up and enjoy the snow. :)
Tonight's homework is to define three words from the following list of words for their group. Students should also be ready for a spelling test tomorrow.
•Armadillo expert group: armor, flex, burrows, investigate •Gazelle expert group: herd, stotting, migrate •Mimic octopus group: mimic, imitate, resemble, dispose •Monarch: warning colors, mimics, common, imitates Tonight's homework is as follows:
Animal sketch #1 in research journal (toward the back by the glossary) Spelling page "Word Study" (if they didn't finish in class) Research journal pages 9-11 (if they didn't finish in class) The top priority is the research journal pages 9-11. We will have our first spelling test on Wednesday. Tonight's homework is to finish working on the expert animal graphic organizer for the web page research. Students should complete it until it says to write a summary. We will do that tomorrow in class and in order to write it, students will need to have the main idea for each section written which are a part of the web page research.
On another note, this week in Thursday folders you'll find a letter to you describing the new spelling routine we will be doing in ELA class. Another addition of our ELA class will be three 40-minute blocks of writing. We will primarily be writing RACE responses using multiple texts like what is expected on the PARCC test. Lastly, since this is the first of the month, I'm conferencing with students regarding their AR goals. Next week in Thursday folders, you'll find their AR goal they set for themselves and the AR report cards showing their quizzes and results from both November only as well as the entire year. You'll also see a note jotted down that indicates their next step to try to accomplish their goal for December. Please support your child in their ELA class by checking to see if they completed their spelling page for the day and asking them about their AR quizzes (they have multiple opportunities to take an AR test every week). Thank you for your support. |
