Students have been investigating the structures of plants and how those structures help them survive, reproduce and grow. We conducted our first whole class experiment to verify that celery does indeed have an internal structure, a vascular system, to transport water from the bottom of the plant to the leaves on the top of the plant. Ask your student about stems, leaves and roots and whether those structures (or parts) allow the plant to grow or if they support the plant or both.

This year we are aligned to the Next Generation Standards which are more rigorous and is what our middle school has already been using. These standards will help prepare our students for the state tests. Students will be using the TCI Science Alive Curriculum which I'm extremely excited about because it will allow for more investigations and deeper scientific thinking.
Science is scheduled from 8:40 - 9:40am on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. It is also scheduled for 11:10-12:10pm on Wednesday. This is a great opportunity for any volunteer who is typically free during that time to help with investigations. If this is something you're interested in, please let me know via email or the contact page. Students will be expected to take notes in the Interactive Notes pages from the curriculum or in their composition notebook. |
