Happy almost Friday!
This week in your Thursday folders you'll find a small sheet of paper to give your child permission to use headphones and tablets as well as permission for me to give other parents your email. Please return this as soon as possible. If you've already completed this during Back to School Night - no worries, we just wanted to try again to reach those who didn't fill one out or who wasn't able to make it to Back to School Night. The headphones can be either left in the backpack or I can hold on to them in a ziploc bag with their name on it. They use headphones in groups in math and ELA classes. Students can bring tablets or phones with an eReader app such as Kindle to use on Thursday and Friday during DEAR. They should be kept turned off in their backpacks during any other time and it is at the students risk. Some of you may have already heard but Senora Jayson and some middle school students are traveling to Costa Rica this year! They are raising their own money and one way they are doing that is through a raffle as well as the first Friday of the month dress down days. The raffle will end soon but the deadline has been extended until Tuesday. Students can win some awesome prizes and tickets are only $1! If they buy 5, they get one free! Please consider supporting this amazing opportunity! Don't forget to meet Mr. VanNorden and others tomorrow and every Friday for Bike/Walk to School. Check out his website or the website link to the right for more information. Next week we will have i-Ready testing in ELA on Monday and picture day on the 14th at 11:00am.

In support of the Broncos and the football kickoff season, students may choose to wear Broncos gear tomorrow! Our Denver Broncos will be playing the Carolina Panthers tomorrow at Sports Authority at Mile High.
Students may wear their Bronco attire with school uniform pants, shorts, capris or skirts. Shirts also may be orange and blue to represent the Broncos' colors. No other teams may be worn. GOOOOOO Broncos!!!!! Also, tomorrow's math classes will consist of the math i-Ready test for all fourth graders. Please ensure your student has a good night's rest as well as a hearty breakfast and early start in the morning. Hey families! Thank you so very much for coming out to Back to School Night and to support the Book Fair. Remember we have one more day of the book fair before it goes away! If you missed Back to School Night please check the Thursday folder which will contain a flyer with important 4th grade information including the schedule. Feel free to email if you have any questions.
Tomorrow is the first dress down day for students who paid $1. The money will go to Highline students who are traveling to Costa Rica this year with Senora Jayson. Tomorrow night is also the first Date Night for Highline Parents! This money will also be used for students going to Costa Rica. If you missed the August 31st deadline, no worries, it's coming around again. For those of you who are going remember it's from 5-8pm tomorrow night (September 2nd) at Highline. Contact Senora Jayson ([email protected]) if you have any questions. SNACKS: Please don't feel the need to bring in snacks for students. Are snacks are only 10 minutes and take place while we work on science or social studies so it's easier if students bring their own snacks. Birthdays: Please remember to sign up for your child's birthday month using the SignUp Genius page so that I know what to prepare for and all parents are aware of what is already spoken for. If you do bring snacks, please drop them off to the teacher directly or the front office with you child's name on it so they can be delivered to the appropriate room. Thank you for all your support as we enter this new school year together. I'm looking forward to working with you and getting to know your child better. Don't forget that the book fair is going on this week and you'll have the opportunity to visit it on Thursday night as well at Late Night at the Book Fair. Information should have been in your Thursday folder last week. See the flyer below and I hope to see you there! :) Welcome to my blog. I am so glad your student is in my classroom - I've been told amazing things about them and how supportive their families are. I am looking forward to working with you and them this year. Please browse the website to become familiar as this is where I will post daily for math and ELA homework as well as science and general updates. My goal is to update every Wednesday for Science and Homeroom tabs.
A little about me... I have been teaching in various capacities since 2010 and this will by my third year at Highline Academy. I graduated from University of Idaho and have lived in Colorado for a little over 2 years now. My absolute favorite subject to teach is math. In my free time I love to spend it with my boyfriend, Marc, and his dog, Roscoe. I have a cat, Copper, who I share with my best friend, Paul. I also spend some nights working my other job at Park Burger. I love spending time outside but even more if it's hot outside. |
